Participants of The Bull Run Participants of The Bull Run

A colleague asked me to participate in The Bull Run – an annual iconic charity fun run in Singapore’s central business district. It seems that nearly every other month brings another walk or run to benefit a charity or fund a cure for a disease.

Then came the spirited discussions of what to wear for the run. I stared at them wondering what a dumb question to ask.

"It is a run, of course we have to run in our sporting attire."

"But it is an Asian theme, we need to have something that represents Asian in us" - Jimmy snapped back.

"We are Chinese. What else do you need? We can’t possibly be running in cheongsams to prove that point. It will be too hot and restrictive. We are running and not cat-walking."

"How about running in sarongs then? It is airy."

I rolled up my eyes in disbelief.

A few minutes later, he came back carrying some Manchurian caps that come with attached pig-tails.

I rolled up my eyes in disbelief a second time.

We ran in A&E scrubs that day.
