1. Are Singapore PRs eligible for the Grant?

A: No. Only Singaporeans will be eligible for such grants as funds for pre-employment grants are limited, and our priority is on Singaporeans.

2. Why are the grants provided only mid-course and not from the start?

A: These pre-employment grants are meant to defray part of their cost of study overseas, in exchange for a service bond after they graduate. This is not a scholarship and hence full funding is not provided. By selecting candidates who are mid-way through their course, it will better help the selection panel to have a better gauge of the students’ clinical skills and aptitude to become a dentist/doctor.

3. Would the applicant’s financial situation be taken into consideration when deciding to award the PEG?

A: The grant would be awarded based on merit.

4. What is the penalty if Grant recipients were to break the service bond?

A: Recipients of the grant who do not eventually serve out their service bond lengths in full, will be required to pay liquidated damages for the remaining bond period to be served.

5. How many grants will be given out annually?

A: There is no fixed annual number of grants per se. The number of grants awarded will depend on the quality of the applicant pool, our hospitals’ manpower needs and the availability of funds. This could vary from year to year.

6. I am a Singaporean doctor currently practising overseas. Am I eligible for the Pre-employment Grant?

A: Existing Singaporean dentists/doctors practising overseas would not be eligible for the grant. Depending on their years of experience and area of expertise, the clusters will tailor an appropriate employment package, to attract more of them back to practise in Singapore.
