The advanced specialty training (AST) programmes, which are common to all 35 registered specialties, are administered by the Joint Committee on Specialist Training (JCST). The JCST is appointed by the Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB) to set the professional standards for specialist training and establish the framework for assuring the quality of specialist training in Singapore.
The JCST also oversees the accreditation of training departments and institutions. The JCST Secretariat is serviced jointly by the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and the Division of Graduate Medical Studies (DGMS), National University of Singapore. The Specialist Training Committees (STCs) for the 35 specialties report to the JCST. They are responsible for conducting specialist exit assessments and examinations.
