These Pre-Employment Grants help defray part of the students’ cost of study overseas. This is not a scholarship and full funding is not provided. By selecting candidates who are mid-way through their course, it will help the selection panel have a better gauge of the students’ clinical skills and aptitude to become a doctor.​

The grant will be awarded based on merit.​

Recipients of the grant who do not eventually serve out their service bond lengths in full, will be required to pay liquidated damages for the remaining bond period to be served.​

The PEG is a discretionary recruitment scheme, and subject to prevailing national needs. There is no fixed annual number of grants per se. The number of grants awarded vary year to year, and will depend on prevailing circumstances including the quality of the applicant pool, our public healthcare institutions’ manpower needs, development in the local pipeline and the availability of funds.

Existing Singaporean doctors practising overseas would not be eligible for the grant. Depending on their years of experience and area of expertise, the healthcare institutions will tailor an appropriate employment package if they want to return to Singapore to practice.​
