House Officer

House Officer training is a period of clinical apprenticeship that aims to equip a new medical graduate with the basic skills of clinical practice. The training will typically last for a year and House Officers are required to perform 3 or more clinical postings. The Medical Registration Act requires all House Officers to complete 4 Months of Internal Medicine and 4 Months of General Surgery or Orthopaedic Surgery.

Fresh medical graduates who wish to apply for a House Officer position must satisfy either of the following conditions:​
  • Possess a MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore OR
  • Possess a basic medical degree awarded by an overseas medical school listed in the Schedule of the Singapore Medical Council (SMC)

Medical Officer

Medical Officers (MOs) are qualified doctors who are immediately responsible for the total management of patients in the wards. They are required to mentor House Officers and help with the clerking of cases and performing of procedures.

MOs undergo 6-month rotations through a Medical Officer Posting Exercise (MOPEX) where MOs may choose postings which suit their developmental needs and career interest.

Changeover dates for postings are in January and July each year.

To be eligible for the Medical Officer position, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:​
  • Must have graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore OR graduated from one of the Universities/Medical Schools listed in the Schedule of the Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
  • Must have completed houseman training satisfactorily
  • Must be granted medical registration by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
  • Must be granted an Employment Pass to work in Singapore (applicable to non-Singaporean/non-Singapore PR)


Associate Consultant/Consultant

Associate Consultant and Consultants are Specialists who have completed Residency/Fellowship OR Basic & Advanced Specialist Training. They are responsible for patient care and leadership to all staff levels, including teaching and training.

To be eligible for Associate Consultant/Consultant position, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
  • Must be accredited as a Specialist by the Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB), Ministry of Health
  • Must be granted medical registration by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
  • Must be granted an Employment Pass to work in Singapore (applicable to non-Singaporean/non-Singapore PR)
  • Must possess the relevant years of experience
